Darndest Dabbler

- open your mind

- open your heart

- open your arms

This blog will be about a variety of things:

  • the true purpose of life (let’s explore some possibilities, at least one of which will be a little shocking),
  • the elusive nature of spiritual truth (as suggested in a natural metaphor)
  • some reflections on the ministry of Jesus (did we miss the point?)
  • pursuing happiness (can we choose what makes us happy, and if so can we make better choices?)
  • musings about the function and dysfunction of emotion (why the world isn’t full of forgiving folks)
  • some fundamental improvements to government and society (some of this is way outside the box)
  • the search for a better music notation (can we ever hope to de-QWERTY a thousand-year-old system?)
  • truly appreciating stepparents (from three perspectives)
  • self-catheterization (everyone’s favorite topic)
  • and more

Yeah, those topics are all over the place.  What’s up with that?  Well, I am going to write about the things that I feel compelled to write about, no matter how diverse in nature.  There’s a reason for it being all over the place.  You’ll see.

You may have noticed the dandelion and wondered why I chose that as a symbol.  Well, if you ever felt as though your contributions and/or your presence was received like a weed in a beautiful garden or a well-manicured lawn, then this blog is for you.  In several ways, I’ve been that weed all my life.  I spent decades trying to root-out my weediness before understanding that it was a blessing.  Your weediness, too, is a blessing.  Let’s embrace it together, one topic at a time, where we don’t belong and yet where we should be.

Sometimes, the topics will be less weedy.  For example, I believe that stepparents should be celebrated more than they are.  Also, as you may have guessed, I have a medical condition that I feel compelled to write about — just in case the things that I have struggled with and learned are helpful to others.

Join me on this journey, and I will try to make it worth your while.  Please note that we will sometimes be way outside the box — stretching it quite a bit — and as such there will be many times that we are (I am) far off the mark.  Please temper your criticism and suspend your disbelief — as though you were reading an intentionally fictional account from a naïve narrator — and look for some truth and/or some value in what we explore together, and you may find a springboard or pivot point for your own inspiration.

One apology in advance: I am not an accomplished writer.  So, at times my posts may look a little like a failed piñata beating.  Please be patient and forgiving.  Cast snowballs, not stones; and I will do the same.
